We appreciate club member Dr. Sam Miller, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, for speaking to our club today on the enrollment at Western Carolina University. Dr. Miller spoke about the growth of enrollment and how WCU has had an influx of application over the past several years allowing the University to further enhance the quality of students that are admitted. Over 11,000 students are currently enrolled at WCU and is the first time that mark has been achieved for a Spring semester. Great things are happening at WCU!
We appreciate Mike Poston, Jackson County Planning Director, for coming to speak to our club today about the Planning Department. He spoke about county ordinances, zoning regulations, and the multiple boards the Planning Department oversees. Thanks for all you do for our community.
What an entertaining meeting today at the “Greatest Rotary Club in the World”! Geoff McBride and our very own club member Scott Bakerperformed multiple songs for our meeting while also sharing their talent with the Department on Aging lunch crowd. Geoff McBride is a former contestant on the Voice and sings a wide range of music from R&B to classic rock. Thanks to Scott and Geoff amazing performance today!
We appreciate club member Carr Tyndall, Vice President of Operations at Jackson Paper, for presenting to our club today. He spoke on the history of Jackson Paper dating back to the Mead Corporation, overall operations, and the Mill’s current economic impact on the region. Our club rang in the New Year with our first meeting as a Club Assembly. Our members were updated on all the great upcoming items for the next few months. Thanks to all the Board Members that shared with our club today. Matt Saenger brought a guest today and gladly gave up the Membership Brick to Tim Hall. Thanks Tim for volunteering to take the brick. Gail Debnam was honored by President Todd as the Rotarian of the Month for all her contributions to the club as Treasurer. A big thank you to Gail for all she does for our club!
Today we had two great speakers for Harris Regional Hospital. Chelsea Burrell, Community Wellness Outreach Coordinator, and Steve Heatherly, CEO & President, both spoke about current initiatives and employee wellness programs at the hospital. Thank you to Rotarian Sarah Leatham who spoke to our club about her Mount Kilimanjaro hike to raise money to help fight polio. A very inspiring story of how she and 7 other women completed the difficult hike and was able to raise over $75,000 to help put an end to polio. #peopleofactionRotary District 7670
