2012-10-04: Susan Belcher – Cullowhee Lilly Initiative

October 4th, 2012 by Scott Baker

Susan Belcher, wife of WCU Chancellor, David Belcher, recently gave a presentation to the Sylva Rotary Club regarding the Cullowhee Lilly Initiative.  Working with local businesses and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Belcher and others are aiming to reintroduce the Cullowhee Lilly, also know as Zephyranthes atamasca, to the WCU campus and its surrounding region.  Local businesses selling the unique flower bulbs include Bryson’s Farm Supply, Country Road Farms, Ray’s Florist, and the Tuckasegee Trading Co.  Proceeds from sales will help fund scholarships for deserving WCU students.  Pictured with Belcher (right) is Sylva Rotary Club President, Lyn Lazar.
