2012-04-26: Dana Tucker – Social Worker with JCPS

April 26th, 2012 by Scott Baker

Dana Tucker, a Social Worker with the Jackson County Public Schools, was the featured speaker at a recent meeting of the Sylva Rotary Club.  Tucker spoke on the subject of poverty and how socio-economic class shapes individuals’ world views, customs, values and behavior.  Tucker emphasized the transformative effect education and example can have, and encouraged business leaders to adopt mentoring relationships with individuals who have known only poverty in their life.  Pictured with Tucker (top, right) is Sylva Rotary Club President, Ruddy Kaye.

April Parker, a senior at Smoky Mountain High School, was honored as the Sylva Rotary Club’s Student of the Month.  Among other activities, Parker is a member of the SMHS student council, Show Choir, varsity cheerleading, track team, and the National Honor Society.  She is the daughter of Bob and Pam Parker.  She is pictured (bottom, left) with Rotary Club member, Kenny Nicholson.
