Paul Harris Fellows for Raye Parker (+3) and Lyn Lazar (+2) were recognized. Lyn also committed to being a member of the Paul Harris Society ($1000 annual pledge to Rotary Foundation).

The student of the month is Lindsey McGregor from Southwestern Community College. Pictured with Lindsey is Sonja Haynes (bottom photo). Here is the letter from her advisor:

“Lindsey is a ROCKSTAR! In fact, I wish I could take credit for raising her – I think that highly of her. Lindsey is an Associate in Arts – College Transfer major but with HEAVY emphasis in math and science courses. Lindsey will graduate in December and then transfer to WCU to major in chemistry with the goal of going into the field of research AFTER graduate school. Since I have known Lindsey, she has been a full-time student as well as a full-time employee at local restaurant establishments. This fall, she added tutoring to her already full plate. Graduating with a cumulative GPA of 4.00 was not enough for this very determined student, so Lindsey decided to engage with SCC’s Honors Program last year. I am thrilled to report that when she graduates this December with the status of Summa Cum Laude, she will ALSO graduate as an SCC Honors Program graduate, having earned her honors credit hours in CHM 152 (Chemistry II), PHY 151 (College Physics) and MAT 271 (Calculus). Lindsey was also a winner in last years’ college-wide Science Fair. In addition to Lindsey’s superior academic strengths, she is also kind, thoughtful and has a wonderful spirit about her. Lindsey is the type of kid (student) you would want as a best friend. I look forward to witnessing the positive impact Lindsey will have not just in our community but in the world. Lindsey is the student that allows each and every one of us to feel confident that our futures will be not in good hands, but great hands!”
